Key Verse: Verse 6 – “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
Key Words: In all thy ways acknowledge him
Look at that word acknowledge. It means to be aware of. The idea is that we are to be aware of what God wants. With that in mind, please consider the following.
Have you ever given any thought to the fact that there are four ways to do something? It doesn’t matter what it is, there are four ways to do it; but only one of these ways is the right way. The four ways are:
You can do a wrong thing in a wrong way and with a wrong attitude. Cain did!! He offered the wrong sacrifice with the wrong motive, and his attitude was wrong. Genesis 4:6 says, “And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?” Cain did a wrong thing in a wrong way.
You can do a right thing in a wrong way and with a wrong attitude. Would you not agree that soul-winning is a right thing? We are told in Proverbs 11:30, “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.” Soul-winning is a right thing; but when a soul-winner knocks on someone’s door and greets them by saying, “I know you’re lost and you need Jesus because you’re a wicked person” (yes, that has happened before), then someone is doing a right thing in a wrong way.
You can do a wrong thing in a right way and with a right attitude. In Acts 19 Apollos is preaching and teaching the baptism of John the Baptist for salvation, and he is teaching this with enthusiasm and zeal. He is doing a wrong thing in a right way.
The only right way to do anything is in a right way and with a right attitude. There are five basic questions you must ask and answer to see if you are right: 1) Am I focusing on myself or God? 2) Am I viewing this as a problem or an opportunity, or simply a negative? 3) Will the way I handle this build me up or tear me down? 4) When you handle a matter with wisdom, God makes even your enemies to be at peace with you (Proverbs 16:7). 5) Am I being a peace-maker or a trouble-maker?
Remember there are a number of ways to handle a matter, but only one honorable way.
What to do:
✞ Desire to be honored by being honorable.
