Key Verse: Verse 15 – “But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.”
Key Words: know how thou oughtest to behave thyself
Have you ever given any consideration as to what our behavior in God’s house says to others? When we talk, clown around, text on our cell phones, write notes, pass notes, etc. during the services, it speaks volumes of our respect for...
God...that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God. This is not just any house, it’s God’s house.
The Word of God...when your behavior is wrong, it is in direct disobedience to God’s Word.
The Man of God...if the pastor has asked that you behave yourself in a proper manner and you disobey, you are showing disrespect for the man God has called to be your pastor. God has given him the message you need for your life and spiritual maturity.
Others Around You...when you misbehave, you hinder others around you who both want to hear and need to hear the Word of God.
Your Parents...when you misbehave in God’s house, you are either disobeying your parents or revealing that your parents have failed to properly train you as to how to behave in God’s house.
The Holy Spirit...when we fail to behave appropriately in God’s house, we grieve the Holy Spirit of God (Ephesians 4:30).
Let me encourage you as parents to teach your children how they ought to behave in God’s house. Secondly, let me encourage your children to sit with you or to at least sit in front of you so you can see what they are doing. Thirdly, take their cell phones away from them before they come to church. It’s more important that both you and they hear from God than to text friends. Next, as parents, be approachable. It is highly possible that your child is “guilty” of what they are being accused of. Last of all, as parents take corrective action for the sake of your child. Remember, foolishness is bound in the heart of a child and the rod of correction shall drive it far from him. When you fail to correct your child, the foolishness stays in their heart even through their adult years and they live their lives doing foolish things.
