Daily Devotion: The Witnesses of God

Bible Reading: Acts 1:1-8

Key Verse: Verse 8- “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Key Words: and ye shall be witnesses

There are five words that stand out in Acts 1:8, “And ye shall be witnesses...” Being a witness is not optional, it’s what each of us should be doing on a daily basis.

There are three ways to be a witness.
  1. Through scheduled visitation. We meet every first Tuesday evening at 6:30 P.M.
  2. Through specific burdens. Ask God to lay someone on your heart to witness to.
  3. Through sovereign appointments. Be keenly aware of opportunities God brings into our life to be a witness.
But as a believer in Jesus Christ, we should all be a witness.

A client once wrote a company for information about their product. In the letter he specifically stated that he did not want a salesman to call on him. The information he requested was rather technical and could not be adequately communicated in a letter, so the company sent a sales representative anyway. When the rep showed up at the man’s office, he received a cold reception. The potential client repeatedly reminded the salesman that his letter had stated “no salesman!” The sales rep was a trainee with very little experience. He tried to calm the irate executive and assure him that there would be nothing more than a simple exchange of information. After continual complaints, though, by the executive, the trainee finally said, “Mister, I’m about as close to a ‘no salesman’ as the company has.”

Many of us feel that way when it comes to telling others about Jesus Christ. But each of us should still on a daily basis (or at least once a week) be a witness to others. I know a lot of people who aren’t good fishermen, but that doesn’t stop them from going fishing. The same should be true for our spiritual fishing trips as well.

Why don’t you witness to at least one person and do that for the remaining weeks of your life? You’ll be blessed for it and from it.

Now go out and tell someone about Jesus.

What to do:
✞ Be a witness daily for the glory of God.
